THAT NIGHT by Gillian McAllister

Cover of Book

Bestselling author Gillian McAllister’s psychological thriller THAT NIGHT is like a modern-day Crime and Punishment on steroids, but with more twists.

Just how far would you go to protect your family? How much guilt could you carry?

It begins with a phone call in the middle of the night. “Help me, please help me.”

Frannie makes the frantic plea to her sister, Cathy, and brother, Joe. Not only does their relaxing holiday at their vacation villa in Verona come to an abrupt end with the call, but their lives will never be the same.

Frannie has accidentally hit someone with her car, just down the road, and she begs for their help. When her siblings arrive, they find the victim covered in blood and not moving. Scared that she’ll be arrested for her lethal mistake, Frannie convinces Cathy and Joe to help cover up the crime. They bury the body, destroy the evidence, and agree to never tell another soul about that night.

As days pass and police investigate, not everyone sticks to their alibi story. And even though they stay a baby-step ahead of the authorities, it’s impossible to bear the layers of guilt quickly suffocating them.

When lies emerge, the siblings aren’t sure who they trust, even each other. Then when their secret leaks, they must do whatever it takes to continue the cover-up. But even murder?

This novel had me totally immersed in the guilty consciences of the characters, my anxiety building as one horrible deed led to another, but then relief when I reminded myself that I wasn’t the one trying to cover up a murder!

McAllister writes her trademark tale filled with moral dilemmas, making us consider “what would I do if…?” This book will give your conscience a good work-out. Totally a must-read!
